SESSION 3 - INTERROGATION
Session 2 | Log | Quotes | Session 4

Word quickly spread through the family that Osiris's assassin had been captured and was being held at Fort Geb.  Many theories were spread about - an infiltrator from another pantheon (Assyria or Nubia, most likely), perhaps shapeshifted, or maybe even another member of the family that nobody knew of.  There was also the question of how long the prisoner had been wearing Tawaret's skin - only recently, or since before Harmakhis and Tawaret came to Amber?

While everyone waited for the four-armed woman to regain consciousness, experiments with Tawaret's skin were carried out, chiefly by Unut, Min, and Anubis.  The results were disturbing; when Unut wore the skin, it magically transformed her features into Tawaret's - even her bestial head.  The only physical way she could be distinguished was by mannerisms - though she had Tawaret's body and voice, Unut's behavior was something that could be noticed by those who knew her well.  Trumps to Tawaret did not connect to Unut in the Tawaret suit, but Trump calls from Unut appeared to be coming from Tawaret, said Anubis.  Anubis was able to identify Unut within his temple, however.  There was a fair amount of paranoia as word of such a convincing disguise spread, and Harmakhis was asked to visit Anubis's temple, lest he turn out to be another assassin in a Harmakhis suit, but his identity held up.

Further paranoia was caused at Fort Geb when someone asked Sobek how Keket was recovering from her injuries, and Sobek later realized that he could not recall the appearance of the questioner at all.  Keket began an inquiry into who in the family was capable of such shapeshifting tricks, but the identity of the anonymous person remained a mystery.  Pretty much everyone did a few secret things during this time, except Harmakhis, who was busy healing.

Wadjet was appointed the chief interrogator of the prisoner, and she set to work that evening.  Preliminary inquiries quickly caused the prisoner to slip into unconsciousness, but Wadjet was able to extract that her name was Kali.

The next day, Shu and Weret went to Isis's temple to dig through the White Witch's study and ritual chambers.  They found a few items of interest, and Shu set in motion a plan to test for the encroachment of Shadow by sending owls out to the edge of Amber.

Horus asked Keket to take charge of the border between Amber and Assyria, and got her advice on his support amongst the family.  Horus then began calling various members of the family in an effort to secure their support for his reign, with mixed results.

The next day Wadjet was able to get a bit more information from Kali.  Apparently she came from a place called the Courts of Chaos, and she was in Amber to kill Osiris, who she claimed was her father.  Her mother had been treated poorly (and perhaps raped) by a dark-skinned Amberite, and Tawaret, who had reached the Courts in her distant travels, had told Kali about the family and suggested Osiris the likely culprit.  The prisoner was exhausted again, and interrogations would resume the next day.

The next few interrogations took place at Anubis's temple.  Kali was chained and brought through via Trump, and once there, was severely weakened by the power of the site.  Anubis was also able to read her surface thoughts and weigh her heart, which helped to verify or discredit her answers to Wadjet's inquiries.  Her endurance was greatly reduced, though, so it was over a period of several days that a clearer picture of Kali and the Courts emerged.

The Courts of Chaos were a place centered around a great river, not unlike Amber.  Kali described the central river of the Courts, the Ganges, as a twisting, ever-changing river that flowed in all directions.  There was a pantheon there, of which she was a young member.  She was trained by Shiva, her uncle, who had great power in the family but was not the ruler.  Vishnu was the Maharaja, the Pharaoh equivalent.  There were other aunts and uncles whose names she mentioned, including Lakshmi, Ganesh, Agni, and Indra.  Her mother's name was Parvathi.  Magic of some kind existed there, but Kali was not proficient in its use, though she claimed to be.  All the members of her family were able to walk through Shadow.

Tawaret had come to the Courts some years before, though time flows differently between Amber and the Courts.  After learning that Tawaret was from Amber and had potential knowledge of her mother's abuser, Kali arranged to have Tawaret captured and tortured, and finally skinned and killed.  Vishnu enchanted Tawaret's skin to serve as a disguise, and Kali departed for Amber, Shadowwalking based on Tawaret's description.  She encountered Harmakhis after only a few weeks, and stayed with him for a time, learning more of Amber while practicing her role as a green-haired Atlantean.  She convinced him to take her back to Amber, and now has mixed feelings about him - she believes Amber must be destroyed, but seems to have taken a genuine liking to Harmakhis.

Though Kali claimed to have killed Isis with her magical powers, Anubis determined that she was lying in an effort to aid another (unknown) enemy of Amber.  She planned to take Osiris's head to Assyria in an effort to ingratiate herself to Amber's closest enemy, but his heart, she consumed.
